It’s been just over a month since we announced our brand new Android app called Trend Micro™ Longevity. As the name suggests, this app is all about giving your Android device a longer life. And by the success we have seen in the first 30 days, this is exactly what people wanted. Longevity is currently only in beta, but early indications suggest it is destined for a long life.
The Android users of the world have spoken. In just under 30 days, over 50,000 people downloaded the app. Longevity has been ranked in the top 10 or 20 in the new free tools list across the world, including France, Poland, the US, Australia, Brazil and others. The most astonishing thing is that the app is only in beta and in English. This hasn’t stopped people worldwide from using and providing feedback on the app.
4+ Star Rating on the Google Play
With a 4+ star rating on the Google Play store, the feedback has been fantastic. We have already released two updates to the product to incorporate user feedback and are working on the next one. We have plans to add more languages on the beta and some other enhancements that users have been requesting.
Now, there are quite a few apps already in the ecosystem that claim to save battery on devices, and let’s face it, anything is better than having your phone die at 5pm on the way home from work, or at 7pm on the way out to meet friends – but quite simply these apps either don’t work, or they are way too complicated for the average smartphone owner to use.
This is why we built Longevity. It’s designed for my mum – well, not really. She still uses a feature phone, but conceptually the people who need a battery saver the most are the people who know the least about what drains their juice. So we built an app that is simple to use and looks fantastic, making it a delight to interact with.
Also, we incorporated the cloud, so we can warn users when they download a new app that is very power hungry, before they find out the hard way. We included a simple button that can turn your smartphone into just-a-phone, switching off data, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. to absolutely maximise the battery.
We alert users if their battery starts to drain faster than normal, so they can do something before it’s too late. And finally most battery apps and devices only tell you how much battery percentage is left – not really much good if you don’t know that 10% = 5 minutes remaining. So Longevity tells you how many minutes are remaining based on current usage patterns.
