There are 2 issues here. Your Facebook account was compromised and used to send malicious links to your friends. You and your friends can avoid falling prey to malicious links in your Facebook News Feed in the future by using Titanium Maximum Security. This version of Titanium provides a plugin to Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers that will mark the links that show up in your Facebook news feed and Google searches indicating whether the links are safe or dangerous. As for the problem with your Facebook account getting hacked there is no single solution, so I recommend following these hack proofing techniques: 1. Choose hard to guess passwords. See my Fearless Web article on how to do this. 2. Change your password every few months. That makes it more difficult to guess. 3. Don't share your password with anyone, even if you trust them completely. You can never be sure whether other folks will be careful with your account. 4. Share your personal information with Friends only. If you are unable to recover your account go to the Facebook Security page to report the problem.

My Facebook accout was hacked in Feb. the hackers used my profile photo and name and sent all my crafting friends messages saying I said check out this link that link took them to NASTY Stuff and had a virus as well my one friend let me know with facebook putting all safety settings back to Every one or friends of friends no wonder I got hacke it is a hackers dream

I’m still bothered by Facebook’s “Hide your friends” feature.

It removes your friends from your profile, but if any of your friends decide to look at “People you may know” or click the “Find Friends” tab, they are shown a list of people and told that you are a mutual friend, making the option to hide them useless.

People have reasons for keeping that info out of sight. In the real world I don’t intentionally hide that information. It’s just nobody’s business.

I guess Facebook has to make money somehow, even if it’s at the expense of my relationships with people.

You raise very good points and I agree that not being able to control being tagged in photos by other friends is an issue. As I said in my blog, it is on my wish list for future Facebook features. Facebook has changed its service based on user complaints and will continue to do so.

But consider this, it has always been possible to falsely represent photographs of people against their wishes in newspapers, magazines and on the web. Tabloid newspapers make a living on this sort of thing. The only recourse for this type of slander is to undertake litigation against the offending party. Neither Facebook implementing controls to prevent being tagged in any photos nor people opting out of using Facebook altogether will stop this type of privacy violation.
